DEAF TRACK
Deaf students and those hearing students who may want to work with the Deaf and come to Lubbock to study in the residential program at SIBI will be required to take 40 courses and 8 preaching/teaching labs in order to receive their Bachelor's of Biblical studies degree. Deaf students who are unable to come to Lubbock to study in the residential program at SIBI have the option to take the courses through Zoom. Typically a student will study for 3 years in the Deaf Ministry Program. All courses are taught in ASL, however, occasionally courses are interpreted and taken with the hearing instructors as needed. The following is a list of the courses that will be taken by students in the Deaf Ministry Program. Courses are all tuition-free, however, there is a $20 technology fee per course.
Old Testament
Old Testament History I
This course is taught in ASL to Deaf students and those hearing who may want to work with the Deaf. In this course, we focus on the Pentateuch (Genesis - Deuteronomy).
Old Testament History II
Continuation of the study through the Old Testament, places, men, women, and promises from God. In this course, we focus on the books of Joshua - 2 Samuel.
Old Testament History III
Continuation of the study through the Old Testament, places, men, women, and promises from God. In this course, we focus on the books of 1 Kings - Esther.
Wisdom Literature
An overview of the books of Job, Psalm, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs.
Isaiah
Textual study of the book of Isaiah.
Jeremiah
Textual study of the book of Jeremiah.
Daniel
Textual study of the book of Daniel.
Ezekiel
Textual study of the book of Ezekiel.
Minor Prophets
This course is designed to help Deaf students and hearing students who work with the Deaf to see what God said to the people through these twelve prophets.
Preaching (Labs)
Confident Preaching
Practical approach to confident, bold, enthusiastic, and sincere speaking by use of short, personal topics.
Interpretive Reading
Practical approach to reading scriptures effectively.
Topical Preaching
Research and presentation of select topics from scriptures.
Effective Teaching 1 & 2
Practical approach to speaking compellingly in a classroom setting.
Preaching from the Old Testament
Development and presentation of sermons from the Old Testament. Emphasis on narrative approach and using O.T. text to a N.T. reference for authoritative Christian use.
Preaching from the Epistles
Emphasis placed on preaching from a short text and a series of sermons from one of the Epistles, striving for proper balance between Biblical exegesis and practical application.
Special Events Preaching
Development and presentation of sermons for weddings and funerals, and instructor assistance in ministering at such times.
New Testament
Sermon on the Mount
Scope of the gospel of Matthew with special emphasis on the Sermon on the Mount.
Life of Christ
A study of the Life & Teachings of Jesus through the gospel of Luke.
Gospel of John
Textual study of the gospel of John.
Acts of the Apostles
Textual study of the book of Acts.
Romans
Textual study of the book of Romans.
1 Corinthians
Textual study of the book of 1 Corinthians.
2 Corinthians
Textual study of the book of 2 Corinthians.
Galatians
Textual study of the book of Galatians.
